About yoga classes

Ashtanga yoga

Suitable for beginners

Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga transmitted to the modern world by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing intense internal heat and a profuse, purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

The first, or primary, series is described in Yoga Mala. The primary series is called Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy. It is intended to realign the spine, detoxify the body, and build strength, flexibility, and stamina. The series of about 75 poses takes an hour and a half to two hours to complete, beginning with sun salutations (surya namaskara A and surya namaskara B) and moving on to standing poses, seated poses, inversions, and backbends before relaxation.

At our Yoga Studio we have classes for beginners and also for advanced practitioners. Ashtanga yoga series for beginners is a great way for anyone to start yoga, especially if you prefer a workout and want fast results. Our teachers of Ashtanga introduces you to the primary series, a set sequence poses prescribed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. We also have LED and Mysore classes.
