The International Art of Living Foundation
The International Art of Living Foundation is a non-profit, educational, charitable and humanitarian non-governmental organisation (NGO) dedicated to creating peace and fostering human values.
Founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1981, its innovative personal & social programmes aim to eliminate stress, create a sense of belonging, restore human values, and encourage people from all backgrounds, religions, and cultural traditions to come together in celebration and service in the global community. The IAOLF is not a religious organization, it works hard to encourage people from all backgrounds, cultural traditions, ages and genders, across the world, to come together and make life a celebration. IAOLF works in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations, participating in a variety of committees and activities relating to health, education, sustainable development, conflict resolution and disaster relief efforts.
The organization has developed at an exceptional rate. Regarded as the fastest growing NGO by the United Nations, the Foundation is also one of the largest volunteer-based organizations in the world. In just 30 years, more than 30 million people have benefited from its programmes which are conducted in over 150 countries across the globe.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian whose mission of uniting the world into a violence-free global family has inspired millions the world over to broaden their spheres of responsibility and work towards the betterment of the world.
Born in 1956 in Southern India, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was a gifted child. By the age of four, he was able to recite parts of the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit scripture and was often found in meditation. His first teacher was SudhakarChaturvedi, who had had a long cooperation with Mahatma Gandhi. He holds degrees in, both, Vedic literature and physics
In 1981, he started the Art of Living Foundation. He developed a powerful breathing technique called SudarshanKriya Yoga (SKY) that makes use of the relation between breath and emotions by including specific rhythms of breath that harmonize the body, mind and emotions and help individuals find relief from stress. In 1997, he founded the International Association for Human Values, a humanitarian organization that advances human values in political, economic, and social spheres. He is also an author of several books on how to live a life of greater happiness and contentment.
